The Materials
Borosilicate glass, or “Boro” is much more durable than traditional “Soft Glass.” It is more scratch and break resistant. A common example of boro in the culinary world is Pyrex. Borosilicate glass is also used in glass labware, commonly referred to as “scientific glass.” In the cannabis space, most glass hand pipes, bongs and recyclers are made using boro glass. There is also a vibrant bead making community using boro. When sourcing our materials, we always use American color and either Pyrex or Schott clear glass, which are widely recognized as the very best available.
The Process
Borosilicate glass is distinct from Soft Glass, the latter of which you may be familiar with from TV shows such as “Blown Away.” While with Soft Glass, it is heated until melted using a furnace, with Boro Glass we us a torch and hand spin the glass in the flame to get it moving and manipulate it. While both forms are generally considered “glass blowing” borosilicate work is called “Lampwork.” With years of experience in glass blowing, I ensure that every piece reflects a high standard of artistry. The process of integrating ashes into glass is intricate, requiring both skill and sensitivity, qualities we’ve honed to perfection.
